Rembrandt Peale said, “...all these children but two were named after painters, although only two of the number adopted the profession. Raphaelle was a painter of portraits in oil and miniatures, but excelled more in the composition of still life. He may perhaps be considered the first in point of time who adopted this branch of painting in America, and many of his pictures are in the collections of men of taste and highly esteemed.”
