From show judge Stephanie Zeiler: If a goat could use cell phones and was attempting to take a picture of their shenanigans while also trying to get their face in the picture frame for a “selfie”. This artwork extrudes playfulness. The composition pulls you in and the placement of the goats and the light diagonal of the grass/tree line pulls you back to the little goat with its back to the viewer? The softness of the pain application creates a bit of ambiguity to what is happening in the scene and allows each person to add their own thoughts and opinions on what is actually happening. Is mischief afoot? I’m wanting so much to see the rest of the expression of the goat in the foreground. The painting captures the essence and character of goats and of course, the scene, but allows the viewer to be able to layer on their own thoughts, feelings and interpretations of what is going on. I found myself coming back to this one several times and wishing I could climb into the picture plane and interact with the cast of characters.
